Planmeca is the first dental manufacturer to design a totally unit-integrated intraoral camera that can be connected and fully incorporated into a dental unit. Intracam's innovatory concept completely eliminates the inconvenience of bulky carts and large docking stations. Since the camera is the only item that has to be carried between operatories, Intracam is the first intraoral camera to allow truly multi-operational use.
Ease of use
The slide focus adjustment is easy to handle and the dentist doesn't have to change grip on the handpiece or use the other hand to adjust the focus during examination. As instrument tubing is light and flexible with no fibre optics inside, even extended use is convenient and not fatiguing. The focal range extends from 6 mm close-up to infinity so that there is no need to change or add lenses, or employ a second handpiece. Intracam's single multi-purpose optical tip has an exeptionally large depth of field which eliminates the need for continuous refocusing during an intraoral examination.

Integration
Completely integrated into the dental unit, the Intracam is controlled with the Prostyle Compact unit foot control. The unit foot control also activates the freeze-frame function of an external printer or image grabber board. Thus Intracam eliminates the need and inconvenience of an additional foot switch.

Hygiene
To ensure a high level of hygiene the Intracam handpiece cover is made of stainless steel and can be disinfected and wiped clean. For ultimate hygiene plastic sleeves can be used without compromising image quality.

Optics & image quality
Intracam's superior image quality is achieved via its high resolution CCD chip and fully integrated digital camera module operating in tandem with the digitally controlled Prostyle Compact dental unit. Intracam offers a true image without the usual computerized mirror-imaging that characterises some cameras. The fully optimized multi-lens precision optics eliminates chromatic and geometric distortion better than any other camera optic systems by focusing all three main colours to the same spot. As a result, clarity and colour reproduction are excellent. Shielding elements inside the handpiece protect the optics and CCD-camera from dirt. Intracam's automatic electronic shutter prevents the blooming effect and over exposure of white surfaces.

Lighting
A tremendous improvement in the uniformity of illumination has been achieved by the unique 4-output light source which is located inside the handpiece. A major advantage is that Intracam operates without the fragile fibreoptic cord and heavy protective tubing employed by conventional intraoral cameras where a big and bulky, high-wattage light source is located in external boxes. Intracam's light bulb does not produce much heat and is easily changed by the user.
