PLANMECA has developed Dimaxis imaging
software to be used with all Planmeca digital imaging products:
Dixi2, Dimax2 and Intracam. Dimaxis is an All-In-One system for
acquiring, viewing, enhancing, measuring, storing and archiving
all kinds of digital images. Special attention has been paid to
keep the operation of the Dimaxis system as simple as possible.
The system is designed to automate the acquisition of images
with minimum intervention of the user. In the Dimaxis software
taking an exposure is almost the same as with conventional film
based systems, except that archiving is fully automatic and no
film processing is needed. The exposure values and patient
positioning coordinates are also automatically stored with the
image.

New dimensions in diagnosis

image enhancement providing diagnostic information that has
never been available before. The operator can enhance the image
with following functions:
|
|
- zoom in and out
- filter the image to improve the quality and to emphasise
the desired properties: blur the image to remove noise
with lowpass filter, sharpen the image with highpass
filter, remove noise with median filter, emboss, get
gradient image with edge operator
- adjust contrast and brightness
- measure distances and angles
- measure density profiles and histograms
- rotate the image
- use pseudocolours
- use inverted image
The automatic gamma correction and equalisation
produce optimum contrast and density of the image.
Additionally the user can add lines, arrows, rectangles,
circles and ellipses to the image texts and write a diagnose
in a separate box and save all these annotations with the
image.

The study concept
|
|
|
In Dimaxis the images can be arranged into
studies, image series, which allow the easy acquisition and
viewing of series of images. A set of preconfigured study
templates is delivered with Dimaxis. With this studytemplate
feature you can get a full mouth series with minimum
interaction with the computer. You just take the exposures.
Although study templates are most useful with intraoral
images, all kind of images can be included in a study to
create a mix containing Intracam, Dixi2 and Dimax2 images of a
specific tooth.

Picture archiving and communication system
|
|
The digital images are stored in an image database on a hard
disk or on a magneto-optical device for long term archiving.
Images can be hard copied by laser printer,
thermal paper printer or dry processing film printer. Images
can be viewed on PC viewing stations in different rooms via
local area network. Images can also be exported to more
distant locations connected to a
communication network. Thanks to the open concept of the
Dimaxis, it is possibile to integrate a practice management or
any other third party software in the system. The Digital
Imaging Communication in Medicine (DICOM) standard aims to
provide uniformity between medical imaging equipment vendors.
The Dimaxis is DICOM 3 compatible guaranteeing the user
maximum benefit from his digital imaging system: Images can be
exchanged between different equipment while maintaining
necessary image information. Being compatible with new
equipment and systems the Dimaxis also keeps costs down.

Integration to practice management
softwares
|
|
|
To be a successful part of a dental practice the digital
imaging devices must be seamlessly integrated with the rest of
the computer system. To make integration possible Planmeca has
created interface standards and libraries to support it.
DIDAPI gives a direct access to image acquisition hardware
(Dimax2, Dixi2) which makes it possible for software houses to
seamlessly integrate all aspects of the digital imaging into
their practice management software. PMBRIDGE offers a
"bridge" for the management software to pass
necessary patient information to the imaging software Dimaxis.
Several practice management softwares has already been
integrated with Planmeca's imaging systems.
